Once again, I am in love…

My Jung Yonghwa-ssi!

One perfectly boring Monday afternoon last November, I was lying flat on my tummy facing my sister’s laptop while waiting for technicians from Skycable to arrive with the digibox I had requested. I was running out of things to watch do; I remember feeling a bit pissed off at that day’s episode of Strong Heart because Lee Seungki was somehow flirting with Yoona from SNSD. Yeah, it’s for publicity, it’s all scripted, but the fan girl in me got hurt, so I was looking for another show/series to watch. And then I came across an episode recap by Javabeans for “You’re Beautiful”.

The cast initially didn’t really catch my eye. I first came across Park Shinhye as the young Jungsuh in “Stairway to Heaven” and instantly liked her but then she played a villain in “Goong S” and I kind of hated the way she acted in that series. Jang Geunseok was cute but I never really liked him so I wasn’t really keen on watching his shows. Lee Hongki, I only know he’s part of the band FT Island, and I didn’t really like their music back then, so I kinda dismissed that tidbit as well. And then, there was Jung Yonghwa… The name didn’t ring a bell. He looked okay, just not that striking, so yeah, it was kind of a fleeting moment as well. Anyways, the plot looked cutely intriguing. Park Shinhye’s character was a nun who would remind us of Maria in “A Sound of Music” who had to pretend to be her twin brother in order to save his budding career as a member of the fictional idol band A.N.Jell while he recovers from plastic surgery gone wrong in the States. So there I went and started watching.

Somewhere along the way, Jung Yonghwa’s character Kang Shinwoo started catching my interest. It was similar to Kim Hyun Joong’s Yoon Ji Hoo in Boys Over Flowers, but a little more dynamic and less weird clothing  . Until one day, I realized that I was in love with the character he played. And who wouldn’t? Try watching this:

Okay, enough before this turns into a video spam post.

He’s earned a lot of nicknames. Towel Guy, Milk Guy (you’d know the reason for these if you’ve watched the drama)… but there’s one nickname that I think suits him perfectly. Park Shinhye has invented it: “Bolmae-Jung”, which roughly translates to “The more you look at him, the more attractive he becomes”. Meaning, he’s more than just a pretty face; he’s definitely work the second look; the more you see of him, the more you discover his charismatic side. ;)

A lot of people who hated Hyunjoong’s “Ji Hoo” in BBF roughly found Shinwoo the same. I wouldn’t say he’s a great actor, since he only has YB for his acting resume for now, but having watched the entire series, he really nailed it as a hopeless romantic suffering from unrequited love. But then, he’s not just a budding actor, he’s also a singer. He’s the lead-vocalist-turned-leader for the Korean indie rock band C.N. Blue, and you’d get to see the real him shining radiantly when he’s onstage performing.

Dang, wish I was that lucky guitar pick…

There’s not much about listed about him or his bandmates. This definitely piques my interest even more. I’m hooked to the music C.N. Blue makes — they’re a breath of fresh air to the Korean music scene. I’m currently faltering between all four members — yeah, I’m really having a hard time sticking to Yonghwa… but all of them are unique and charismatic in their own way. In any case, I’m still very happy I’ve discovered Bolmae-Jung that one Monday afternoon. ^^

PS: I’m really jealous of f(x)’s Sulli — she appears to be Yonghwa’s ideal girl. T_T
